German conjugation explanation
The 'e-extension' (Euphonic 'e')

For many German verbs, maintaining a smooth pronunciation is a priority. When a verb stem ends in sounds like -d or -t, adding standard endings like -st or -t would create a cluster of consonants that is physically difficult to pronounce (e.g., trying to say arbeitst or redt).

To fix this, we insert an extra -e- between the stem and the ending. This is often called the "euphonic e" or "e-extension".
