Spanish conjugation explanation
La gente singular vs. plural

Although the Spanish noun la gente translates to "people" (which is plural in English), it is a singular collective noun. Because it refers to a group as a single unit (like "the crowd" or "the family"), it differs from English usage and always triggers a singular verb form (Third Person Singular).
