Stimmung vs. Abstimmung
While the German words Stimmung and Abstimmung both originate from the verb stimmen (to be correct, to vote), they have very different meanings. Stimmung is about feelings and atmosphere, whereas Abstimmung relates to voting and coordination.
Stimmung
A2Stimmung primarily describes a mood, atmosphere, or a general feeling. It relates to the emotional state of a person, the vibe of a place, or the general public sentiment. In a musical context, it also means tuning.
Die Stimmung auf der Party war ausgezeichnet.
(The atmosphere at the party was excellent.)
Ich bin heute nicht in der Stimmung für einen Witz.
(I am not in the mood for a joke today.)
Das regnerische Wetter schlägt mir auf die Stimmung.
(The rainy weather is affecting my mood.)
Kerzenlicht und leise Musik erzeugten eine gemütliche Stimmung.

Abstimmung
B1Abstimmung refers to the act of voting, a ballot, or a poll to reach a collective decision. By extension, it also means coordination, alignment, or synchronization between different things, such as plans, colors, or technical parts.
Die Abstimmung über das neue Gesetz findet morgen statt.
(The vote on the new law will take place tomorrow.)
Das Ergebnis der Abstimmung war sehr knapp.
(The result of the poll was very close.)
Für dieses Projekt ist eine enge Abstimmung zwischen den Abteilungen erforderlich.
(This project requires close coordination between the departments.)
Die farbliche Abstimmung der Vorhänge auf das Sofa ist perfekt.

Summary
In essence, the core difference is between feeling and action. Stimmung is a state you are in or that a place has (mood, atmosphere). Abstimmung is a process you do or a result you achieve (a vote, coordination, alignment). You can feel a Stimmung, but you conduct or take part in an Abstimmung.
